Hotel Politeama

The room did get hot, but thankfully they brought up a fan to cool it down. Everything else made for a great stay: comfortable bed, excellent service, a delicious and generous breakfast, and a perfect location.

Breakfast had a good spread, and the location is excellent for walking to the main city sights. But for the same price, we’d stayed in a five-star hotel in Firenze before coming to Palermo, so this felt disappointing. The room was extremely hot in December and we weren’t allowed to switch on the air conditioning. Reception suggested opening the window, but the noise outside was too loud. The pillows were worn and uncomfortable, and even at 5'5'' I found the shower tiny. Water went everywhere and made a mess. If you can, look for somewhere better.

The rooftop bar has outstanding views and a good range of drinks, though they’re premium-priced. My room was quiet and a good size, with an electronic safe, lots of storage, a chair, and coffee and tea making facilities. The large bed was comfortable and the blackout curtain worked well. Parking was off site at €23 per day. An attendant collected and returned the car with 20 minutes’ notice.

The rooms are very clean and well equipped, though a little smaller than you might get in a purpose-built hotel. The staff and location more than made up for that. I was grateful to find a four-star hotel with a team that matches the service I’ve had at any five-star place. I’d absolutely stay again.
