U-way

We only used the apartment to sleep, and once we got used to the uncomfortable bits, it was fine for that purpose and for Sicily. The unfriendly communication bothered me most. When I sent a photo of an insect, they didn’t reply at all. I wasn’t looking for an official response, just a simple “sorry.” The listing’s deluxe headline felt like a total scam, and there’s no tub. We found one insect about 6-8 cm long, possibly a cockroach, and another smaller one later. Soundproofing between rooms was practically zero, so we could hear every word from the TV next door at night. Our sliding door had a 1 cm gap underneath, which didn’t help with sound, insects, or privacy. The shower head was broken, showering was a hassle, and water leaked out of the cabin. They didn’t tell us about the kitchen, which we discovered by accident on our last day. We didn’t plan to cook, but some glasses and a microwave would’ve been useful. Communication was annoying too: they wouldn’t speak English or use Google Translate, so I translated my messages into Italian, and then had to translate their replies back into English, even though I was paying for the service. On the plus side, the man who greeted us was kind, the location was good, and it was fairly quiet except for car horns. The authentic furniture made the bedroom cozy, and we could put paper in the toilet, which can be an issue in Sicily because of the poor sewer system. When visiting Palermo, location matters, since outer districts aren’t always safe, and it’s best to lower your expectations a bit. A 6/10 apartment elsewhere might be a 9/10 in Sicily.
