Gardens House

I booked this accommodation for August this year. Yesterday, the owner messaged to say he had to cancel, but gave no reason. I replied that since he was initiating the cancellation, he needed to cancel through Airbnb. If I did it myself, I could be charged a fee or not get all my money back. He again told me it was OK. When I went to Airbnb, the site asked whether the owner was cancelling and warned that I might not receive the full payment if I cancelled. I copied the screen and offered to send it to him, then used the “Request Owner to Cancel” button. The owner replied, “you should of done this I will have to pay a penalty”. I found that rather rude, given that he was the one cancelling the booking. It’s a shame, as this place seemed to have good reviews.

From the third floor, the apartment looks out over Lake Como. It has two rooms and a large kitchen, and the station and ferry are both just a three-minute walk away.

The host was really nice, and the location was great.

We felt pressured into paying an unexpected €105 in cash just to get into the room after a long trip with our toddler. No receipt, invoice, or other proof of payment was given. We were told the booking was for two people even though it showed four, then, when we questioned that, the explanation changed to charging our 2-year-old as an adult. The reasons kept shifting, and the whole check-in felt deeply uncomfortable. What bothered me most was the lack of clear information and paperwork around the charge. I’d make sure every extra fee is confirmed in writing beforehand and ask for official documentation for any payment. There are plenty of places to stay nearby. After this experience, we wouldn’t return or recommend it to families looking for a straightforward, trustworthy check-in.
