La Scalinata Apartment

We booked two nights at La Scalinata Suite through Booking.com, but ended up stranded outside without access. Before arriving, I asked the host about sheets for the sofa bed. She said we should have asked earlier and wanted to charge €30. I didn't think that was fair, since guests would naturally expect bedding with a sofa bed. After that exchange, she deleted the access code from WhatsApp. We had sent our passport details and received check-in instructions for this SELF CHECK-IN property, but when we arrived we couldn't get in. We called and messaged repeatedly without a reply, then spent around three hours with Booking.com support trying to sort it out. At about 9pm we had to find and pay for another place ourselves. There was no valid reason to remove access, yet the host later called it a “no-show,” which is simply false. So far, the handling by both the host and Booking.com has been very disappointing. While we waited in a nearby café, its owner told us this was “not the first time” something like this had happened. We were at the property, still waiting outside because we couldn't get in. The code was sent at 16:59 and then deleted from the chat, leaving us without the information we needed. My WhatsApp screenshot shows that at 17:52 we were still at the door asking for it to be sent again. Check-in should be when a guest can actually enter, not simply when they arrive outside. Without the code, we had not effectively checked in. I'm clarifying this because your comments make it sound as if access was available and the delay was our fault. We were waiting at the property for the information needed to get inside. This review reflects what happened that day, and the attached message supports it.
