B&B Nuovo Paradiso

The rooms were nice and clean, and there’s a full green setting with games and other things around. Services are shared with the other rooms. Breakfast included rusks, grissin bon società per azioni sant'Ilario d'Enza re, capsule coffee, fresh cakes, packaged croissants, croissant flakes, milk and water. We arrived late and they had us check in late, as expected, but they offered us coffee. The staff were friendly and courteous.

We were walking the Camino de San Jacopo with friends and stayed at B&B Nuovo Paradiso. It's a private home with guest rooms, about 3-4 km from Pescia center and nearer to Collodi. Our group of five got the large ground-floor room, which had its own kitchen and bathroom. It was a little dated, but clean enough and fine for us. There’s a garden spot to hang laundry, handy for hikers. Breakfast was included, though I missed it because I left early to keep walking. Better places exist, sure, but at the price we agreed on, it was what I expected.

The heating went off at midnight, so we spent the night cold, and breakfast was barely there. The house itself was old and very dirty, and the owner was extremely rude. While we were asleep, he came into our rooms to wake us up. He should have reported us right away if there was a problem. He also charged each of us €2.50 to clean the living room, even though we'd cleaned it, picked up the rubbish, and taken the garbage bags away, leaving it in perfect condition. Over €2.50, he lost face as a B&B and, more than that, as a person. The location was awful too. Places like this ought to be closed immediately. What a disgrace.

It's peaceful around the property, but it's nearly four kilometers from both central Pescia and Collodi, which makes it a poor fit for hikers in my view. I hadn't been told on the phone that my room would have a shared bathroom. Breakfast was another disappointment: mostly packaged products, eaten on an open porch despite the sunshine. I still needed a down jacket. At €40 per person, I honestly expected more.
