Albergo dell'Oca

This place is tiny, with only three or four tables outside. We ordered two cold-cut platters and a pair of glasses of Montepulciano red. They opened the wine at the table from a bottle with a plastic cap, and it tasted mediocre. The platter was awful: four slices of Milano salami, six or seven rolls of another Citterino-type salami, three slices of caciottina, all buried under Pai crisps and pretzels. I've never had a worse platter. The prices were exorbitant. Strongly not recommended.

The manager, Mr. Roberto, and his brother-in-law, Massimo, were extremely kind and always available. The B&B is right in the center of this charming village, a lovely spot for a relaxing break away from the big city rush. It's in an older building, so there isn't a lift and the stairs are narrow. If you travel with a whole wardrobe, you may want to look elsewhere. We stayed one night in the attic room, which was tiny, and the bathroom was even smaller, but I wasn't disappointed. It was just what I expected, a welcoming place to escape and recharge for a short weekend. I'd recommend the attic for a night or two if you don't mind a very small space. If you want more room, book one of the larger rooms and spend a little more. The property is small but clean and warm. It rained and was cold during our June weekend, and the place still felt cosy. Breakfast was excellent. I'd repeat the experience.

We made a last-minute trip to Roccaraso to see the Giro d'Italia finish and booked the Albergo dell'Oca by phone. We got in around 11 at night and a very kind, friendly gentleman welcomed us with hot tea. He also offered us an upgrade from the attic room we'd reserved. The hotel is small, cute, clean and tidy, with a welcoming feel. It's in the town center, close to the square, shops and bars. Congratulations, and thank you for the hospitality.

That rooftop view? A real attic, no joke. The bathroom was about 1m2, with an open shower. Breakfast at the bar came with a chocolate bomb on bruschetta. Great experience! I ordered a cappuccino, but the latte arrived ten minutes later. I could have booked on Booking for 79, but called instead because I didn't want to give the Dutch money away. They asked me for 80 instead of 100. The actual hotel I'd skipped was 6km from town and the same price, but it's a five-star hotel by comparison. I've stayed there. I took the photo with my arm raised to see what was outside. I'll keep quiet about that. Such a shame a town like this isn't promoted better. The strange policewoman was talking to her mother while we waited for information. If Germans were here, they'd build an airport.
