Baglio Basile Hotel

There wasn’t much information available. We had no folder in the room, and with so many function rooms in such a large hotel, a map would have helped. Some information about local attractions would’ve been useful too. The room itself was spacious, clean, and comfortable, though a bit tired at the end of the season. No tea or coffee setup, but the little fridge worked very well. Staff were friendly and helpful despite our limited Italian and their limited English. Salvatore C in particular gave us an Italian lesson most evenings. The food was plentiful and well prepared, and the pool was lovely and refreshing.

It was crowded during our stay, so nothing felt relaxing, and I was glad we were only there one night. There’s entertainment for kids, which is nice, and the pool itself is lovely, but the loud music and DJ didn’t fit what I’d expected from a relaxing spa hotel. Breakfast was terrible too, with too many people crammed into a small space and food that was below average. It’s a very nice hotel, but it could do much better. I think its best days are behind it.

Gaspare was so warm and friendly with us, two Irish travellers. He made a point of greeting us every day, which we really appreciated, and his cocktail skills are remarkable. He was always coming up with lovely little surprises for us. Annmarie and the other bar staff were friendly and professional too. Thanks, Gaspare!

Communication from the hostess was very poor. Nobody told us the meal times, including dinner and breakfast, and when I asked, they said I should read my booking. I work in hospitality too, and even if the details are in the booking, they should still be explained to guests face to face. The spa was the one good part, along with the amazing older waiter for the fuga Romantica. I definitely won’t be back.
