Hotel Bouganville

We couldn't use the spa during our stay. It's also open to outside visitors, and on the days we were there it was already too crowded for us to get into the hot tub, sauna, or other facilities. That was frustrating since the spa was the main reason we chose this hotel over cheaper places. The layout also made getting around inconvenient: rooms are in separate buildings, with a long walk to reception, the restaurant, or the pool. Pool towels cost extra, which isn't the service I expected from a 4-star hotel. The rooms were comfortable, the location convenient, breakfast plentiful, and restaurant staff very professional.

We stayed for one night in June, and the next morning's breakfast was average at best. The evening before, a wedding at the property made a lot of noise. We asked about changing rooms, but the receptionist was rude and unsympathetic. She said we were far from the wedding, even though it was literally just below us. Weddings are lovely, but not so much for the other guests. This was the only large hotel on our 10 stay holiday around Italy, and the experience will make me think twice about large hotels in future. All in all, a disappointing stay.

We really enjoyed staying here last year, but this time it felt like getting good reviews mattered more than our comfort. At breakfast, a waiter brought us a code to scan and asked for a 5 star review. Then, during dinner one evening, a woman came over with a tablet for us to fill in our thoughts about the hotel. It felt intrusive while we were eating, so we won't be coming back. The food was good, and the evening entertainment was okay. One night, though, four entertainment staff were chatting with holidaymakers while just one waiter served drinks, so we had to wait a while. The room was okay, with a compact bathroom and a decent-sized balcony, but its concrete wall meant you had to stand to look over it. We couldn't sit and relax there.

The bathroom and shower were very nice. The room itself was basic, with noisy air conditioning and corridors. The hotel is okay, though spread over lots of different levels. I was there for business and didn't use the spa facilities.
