Colombaiolo is a bit of a walk from the city centre, but that also keeps things quiet at night. I’d nearly booked a room in town, though I’m glad I chose this place for its lovely, private view of val d'orcia. My room was very clean and kept that way each day. Lucia was lovely and attentive. She showed me around the farm and its animals, and did her best to speak English when I had trouble understanding Italian. Definitely worth it, and I’d recommend it for a relaxing holiday.

There was plenty of parking, daily room service, and the price felt very fair for what we got. The room and bathroom were huge, and breakfast was homemade and fresh each morning. For a small fee, she also did our laundry. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and farm, with beautiful views over Tuscany. It’s a handy distance from Pienza, and she suggested a cooking class about 15 minutes away.

Lucia was so kind and hardworking. Although the website said breakfast had stopped, she told us it could still be arranged, so we had it for 10 euro per person. It came with coffee, two bruschettas, yoghurt, cheese, prosciutto, a croissant, and a little pastry. From the farmhouse you really can see the Val D’Orcia countryside, just like the website photos show. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot near Pienza, which we found the cutest of the Tuscan towns we visited. We also went to Montichiello, Bagno Vignoni, and Montalcino, and a short walk gets you to the Gladiator scene site. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you want somewhere quiet.

The beds are hard, and they have a problem with mice. We also weren’t allowed to have food or drinks in the room.
