Agriturismo Cailuca

The family who own this agriturismo made us feel very welcome. We had a comfortable stay in a beautiful area, and it's very handy for visiting Pietralunga.

We stayed here at both Christmas and Easter. The accommodation is lovely and very well kept, and we were greeted with courtesy and kindness. Each apartment had the essentials waiting on arrival: bread, milk, fruit juice, cold cuts, cakes, snacks, chamomile tea and other herbal teas, all at a very fair price. There's not much to see nearby, but there's plenty of greenery and a real sense of peace and quiet.

The owners are very kind and helpful, and we had a great time. The apartments are beautiful, well maintained and have all the amenities. The farmhouse itself is lovely, ideal for a relaxing break in nature. Its remote location makes it less convenient as a base for visiting nearby towns. The only drawback is that we couldn't light the beautiful fireplace in the apartments because, they said, it smokes. Still, highly recommended.

The houses sit in a hollow surrounded by dense deciduous forest. There's a nice pool and a large pool area with many loungers and a few parasols. Despite the problems we had, the stay was pleasant and quiet. We spent a week at Agriturismo Cailuca with our children and grandchildren, nine of us in all, using two apartments. The larger one had three bedrooms and seven beds; the smaller, in a separate building, had one bedroom and three beds. The large apartment had no patio, while the others had generous ones. Its front door had only a knob, not a normal handle. If it was shut but unlocked, it couldn't be opened from outside, which was awkward with six people and just one key. For seven people, there was just one bathroom with a shower, plus a separate toilet downstairs. That toilet smelled of sewage, and the smell spread through the apartment if we didn't keep the door shut. The rooms weren't cleaned very well, with dust and sand under the beds, and dried milk on the coffee machine's frother. The kitchen was short on equipment: there weren't enough plates, glasses or cutlery for seven, and there were few utensils. The information on booking.com mentioned free toiletries, but all we found was one hand soap and toilet paper. There was no soap in the small toilet. Coffee was supposed to be included, but we had to ask for refills, along with more toilet paper. The hostess was hard to reach and spoke only Italian. A man who seemed to be acting as a caretaker helped us contact her when we needed supplies and when we'd locked ourselves out because the door had no handle. There were three unlabeled switches on the wall by the gas stove. One controlled the stove's spark ignition and another the electric oven, which was easy to work out. We didn't know what the third did, so we switched them all off for the night. The next day we found out the third switch was for the fridge and freezer, the hard way. Not ideal in the heat. There was no mobile phone signal at the property and WiFi only worked sporadically, so it's not a good fit for anyone who needs to stay reachable.
