Aston Hotel

Free parking and a five-minute drive to Torino made getting around easy. We stayed for two nights and liked it. Our room was spacious and nicely decorated, the lobby was comfortable, breakfast had everything we could want, and the staff were friendly. I would have liked a small gym or sauna.

We left after just one night. They charged us for 1.5 nights, or €300, as a courtesy, but that still felt like a lot for the hotel's condition and very out-of-the-way location. I wouldn't recommend staying here. I booked during Eurovision in Turin, paying over 200€ a night after the photos and customer reviews gave a good impression. The lobby looked nice and the staff were friendly, but the hotel itself was old and poorly maintained. Our room wasn't worth the price: the furniture was worn, there were cracks in the wall, and the cabinet was broken. With 29 degrees outside, the a/c didn't work. We were told it was because the filter was being changed, and advised to open the window since it cools off at night. That was barely an option, though, because restaurant staff downstairs were making noise, smoking, and throwing things around until after midnight.

The best things here were the lovely natural setting and the reasonable price. Everything else was moderate at best. It was advertised as a four-star hotel, but our experience felt more like one star. We were nine people, including an eight-year-old girl, and arrived in the early afternoon. The entrance is awkward: the turn is sharp and narrow, almost a U-turn, on a tree-lined road where using your indicator could make the driver behind think you did it by mistake. We were staying in ground-floor rooms, but there was no ramp or lift, just 20 steps. The hotel was still being refurbished, and a carpet had been laid down to catch paint drips. Our luggage nearly pulled it away. Our group included four adults and a dog. The air-conditioning was on, but we couldn't feel anything, even at the lowest temperature. After being out shopping for a few hours, we returned at night to find it still wasn't working. The first night was dreadful. When we complained the next day, the only response was, “Was it on?” We ended up spending a much-needed €70 on a fan just to get through the night. Breakfast was another problem. We went down at 7:30 AM, though breakfast runs from 7 to 10, and were told the food was finished. They weren't planning to restock, and the only food left was rotten, stinky eggs. The hotel is surrounded by trees and has a great view, but the advertised pool isn't on the premises. It's only at the house next door. No working a/c and breakfast like this were a joke.

The pictures and star rating give a very misleading impression. This is closer to two stars at best, and the exterior is run down. I booked because the listing said there was a/c, but they turn it off regardless of the temperature, leaving the rooms warm and stuffy. The room photos showed baths, but ours didn't have one. I paid for a night to cancel and didn't stay. It's nowhere near turino, either. Buyer beware, and keep your expectations limited if you stay.
