Carlo Magno Spa Resort

The staff were really friendly, and dinner was delicious, with a different selection of excellent dishes. It’s an atmospheric hotel in a great location.

There’s a lot going for this hotel: it’s well located, has direct access to the ski slope and ski service on site, and offers large rooms with beautiful views and very good food. But children under 12 can’t use the pool after 4 pm, which I consider discriminatory. English is also a problem for most of the staff, including the waiters and restaurant team. Only reception staff know some English, and even they know very little.

The spa was very good, and the rooms were nice. Breakfast and dinner both had great buffet choices, and there was a very good wine menu. Service was good, with really friendly staff.

The food is excellent, the Mini Club is well run and great value, and the spa is lovely. Maitre d' Paolo and his team provide excellent service, especially Beatrice. This was our 5th ski trip here in Feb, but our first during carnival week. The slopes were too busy then, so we wouldn’t choose that week again. We also had the smallest room we’ve ever had, probably because of carnival. Skiing in and out is a plus, but the return on piste 54 is a real problem. It’s a beautiful blue run until the narrow, nasty red wall just before the hotel, where it catches a lot of skiers out. It really needs improving. People take their skis off or avoid it by walking up the road from Fortini. It’s a shame beginners have to face this, especially since it’s the only ski route back to the hotel. The pool and jacuzzis were also far too cold. Since only children >12 can use the pool, they could turn up the heat, especially in the jacuzzis.
