Safestay Pisa Centrale

The garden was my favorite part, with plenty of shady trees and space to eat outside in any weather. The staff were especially helpful and attentive, better than at other Safestay locations I’ve tried, and they’re the reason I’d come back. The room and sheets were clean, though the air conditioning wasn’t great, so we opened the window and put up with a few mosquitoes. This was probably the oldest Safestay I’ve stayed in for amenities, and the food was pretty mediocre. Lockers fit a regular backpack and essentials. Breakfast is inexpensive in a pinch, the espresso is good, and drinks are normally priced at 7 eu. It’s a couple of blocks from Pisa Centrale and the bus. I stayed before my flight and could walk to the airport in 15-20 minutes, something I haven’t managed elsewhere. I’ll admit I’m writing this for the free drink, but this is my honest take. The staff at Safestay were delightful and very kind, and the location is handy, close to the train station. Breakfast is a croissant or cake with a drink of your choice, a nice quick bite before heading out. You can leave bags after checkout for €3 per person. The room would be more practical with small lights by the beds instead of only one big light. The lockers could be larger too, since our backpacks didn’t fit.

For the price, the rooms are clean and fine, and the location works well if you mainly need somewhere to sleep between travel. But I’ve stayed in plenty of great budget hostels, and this wasn’t one of them. I’d put it at 3/5. They advertise air conditioning and luggage storage, but bags cost 3€. The explanation is that the fee helps keep beds cheap, though at similarly priced hostels in bigger cities I haven’t seen that framed the same way. Also, nobody told us the A/C has to be switched on by asking reception. I only learned that from reading reviews.

It’s a simple, serviceable place, and I’d probably stay again. The rooms aren’t especially pretty, but ours was very clean, with comfortable beds and a roomy bathroom and shower with good water pressure. The desk staff were really nice. Breakfast is included, a cappuccino or espresso with a croissant or cake. It sounds modest, but was filling enough and enjoyable. There’s also luggage storage for 3, and the hostel is about five minutes from the station.
