Villaggio Camping Costa del Mito

Quiet and peaceful, right in the heart of Cilento in southern Italy.

The restaurant was well managed, with helpful, friendly staff, generous servings, and a breakfast with a decent range of choices. At the beach, a barrier of rocks creates a shallow area where kids can play and swim while parents feel at ease. The hosts for the simple entertainment were friendly and engaging. It's a good fit for people with modest expectations, especially given the competitive prices. The resort sits up on a hill, so walking to the beach takes a while, but the shuttle runs reliably from early morning until late at night, including after dinner. The rooms are basic and could use improvements. There's a fridge and TV, but no air conditioning, only ceiling fans, and the beds weren't very comfortable. Good value overall.

We stayed at the end of July, two adults on half board, with a beach umbrella and two loungers included. Our bungalow was cleaned daily. The staff were discreet and helpful, and the bungalow, while dated, stayed cool and was comfortable. It had a ceiling fan, which we hardly needed, though no air conditioning. The pine trees, cicadas, and light breeze made the views especially relaxing. The water was clean, but you'll need water shoes. Getting around means going up and down hills, which can be nice if you're after some exercise. Breakfast was a well stocked European spread. Lunch and dinner weren't fancy, but the food was good. I had everything I wanted here. If you're after a five star restaurant or a chance to show off a fashionable swimsuit, though, this probably isn't your spot.

The entertainment team deserves credit. The poorly qualified staff did what they could to make up for the property's many shortcomings, which I appreciate. Breakfast was poor, especially the quality, and the food overall was unimaginable. We spent four days here with family. It felt like the place had been popular in the 1990s and then, I think, mostly abandoned. Our room was small, with a view only of the neighboring house's wall. The sea was too far to walk to, and getting around the property was difficult. It's all slopes, and walking uphill in the scorching heat was awful. A bus takes you up the steep first stretch, and when you get off, you feel grateful just to have made it.
