Casa Raffaella

Raffaella made us feel very welcome and was kind, with suggestions for things to do whenever we needed them. The place was peaceful, clean, and had a homely feel. It's close to the center, the sea, and the train station, and the prices are affordable. We highly recommend it.

The mattress was the worst part. It had a hole in it, so turning over and getting proper rest was impossible. I don't leave bad reviews unless I feel they're necessary, but the lady really needs to reconsider how she runs this place. There isn't a garden, and parking was a problem: no paid or free spaces are provided, so you have to search all over Polignano. We nearly got a fine. The center is close enough to walk to, which is the only upside. This is a second-floor apartment in a low-income building, with rooms rented separately. The furnishings are dated, the kitchen was dirty and messy, and guests have to clean it themselves. We were told there would be breakfast, but in the morning she brought one frozen, baked croissant at 8:30. There weren't enough for everyone, and there wouldn't be a second one if you asked. The same figs sat on the plate all week. I asked for butter and it was a month past its date. When we asked for bread, she said they only had toast, with no expiration date. The cereal box was already open, no one knew how long it had been that way, and nobody touched it. We got nothing else over four days. I know it isn't meant to be a continental breakfast, but four croissants for four guests in the morning isn't acceptable. Better not to offer breakfast at all. Some people have called her friendly. I found her intrusive. She'd bring the croissants over and sit at the table watching us eat the whole time.

We booked a room at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised by how friendly and helpful the owners were. The location was great, and the room was roomy and comfortable. Breakfast on the lovely terrace was a treat. We'll come back for sure, and we'll get married 😜.

It's easy to get around from here: the place sits between the center and the train station, with Lama Monachile about 5 minutes away and Cala Paura also walkable. For the many nearby beaches and other places, though, I'd use a car. The lady is very helpful, and I'd suggest getting in touch before arrival since she can recommend what to see and how to enjoy it. If you like an early breakfast, the shared kitchen is there to use. Otherwise, you can take things slowly.
