Hotel San Giovanni

The staff's warmth made us feel welcome right from the moment we arrived. The hotel was spotless and pleasant, and the grounds were beautifully kept, which made the stay even nicer. Their attention to detail and genuine friendliness really stood out and made us feel special 🫶🏻

Barbara was such a friendly, attentive host, and we had a wonderful stay. Our room, 203, had one side facing the sea and the other toward the abbey. The hotel isn't fancy, but it's cosy and spotlessly clean. It's right on the beach, with an easy stroll along the sand to the pretty fishing harbour of San Vito, just a few minutes away. A lovely base for exploring, though you'll need a car because it's a little off the beaten track. Thanks, Barbara and Vito.

In July's heat, we really needed a pool. We booked after seeing past reviews mentioning access to the neighboring beach club and its pool, but found out at check-in that the club was closed. The hotel doesn't advertise a pool, so that's not the hotel's fault, though the reviews left things ambiguous and it was disappointing. There are a couple of other nearby beach clubs with pools, but they have bad reviews and are expensive by comparison. The beaches are rocky and not great for swimming, so bring rock shoes, though the water is nice and refreshing. There's a nice shower at the hotel for when you come off the beach. Supermarkets are a bit far if you need essentials or snacks, and there's not much else to do for bored teenagers.

The listing online said it was open, so I drove over without booking ahead. There was nobody around and the gate was shut. Glad I hadn't booked.
