Hotel La Roccia

The cable car across the road runs to Ponte di Legno or Tonale until late afternoon, and the hotel sits between Ponte and Passo Tonale. We had a very clean, roomy family room for four, with a big bathroom and lovely mountain views. Breakfast is a typical Italian mountain spread, and the yogurt is worth trying. The people here take great care of their guests. A lovely family-run place and great value.

The food was brilliant, proper Italian fare, and I ate enough to put on weight. The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to help. There’s a heated boot rack in the handy ski storage area by the lobby, and the hotel is wonderfully quiet with stunning mountain views. It’s family-run, and I’ll be back. We stayed here for skiing, with parking right outside and an easy walk to the gondola midpoint for the slopes. The room was comfortable and bright, with big windows and blinds that could make it properly dark. The bed was very narrow for my broad shoulders, so turning over at night woke me up or risked sending me over the edge. The shower was a bit tight too, I had to be careful not to lean back and turn it off. Those were minor snags and wouldn’t put me off returning.

I’d recommend La Roccia for a group trip. It’s close to the ski lift and easy to get to from Passo del Tonale. The owner is understanding and welcomes feedback to keep improving the service. The food is good, especially given that they were catering for 88 people in our group, which isn’t easy. The staff and owner really do their best for guests who are respectful.

The rooms were great, but dinner was a real problem. Yesterday, four people at my table didn’t get any food because there wasn’t much on the table to begin with. The servings were far too small for us after skiing, so everyone was still hungry, and the portions weren’t even consistent, one person got twice as much as another.
