BB Civico 40

Thank goodness the prepayment was returned, but the whole experience was unacceptable. We’d booked and paid in advance for B&B civico 40, then couldn’t find it at the address we were given. A message sent us to another location, about a 15-minute walk away, where there was no hotel either. We called, but the man couldn’t speak clearly in English and we couldn’t understand his directions to the entrance. There was no sign for the place. It looked like a scam or an unreliable partner to us. I strongly don’t recommend it and hope the relevant authorities take action.

The room itself was a letdown for the price: a towel had dirty brown stains, the blanket had cigarette burn holes, the bathroom door wouldn’t close, and the shower only ran while I kept pressing the button. There was also a plastic box of something fermenting in the fridge, and the walls were so thin we heard everything from other rooms. The breakfast issue was worse. Booking clearly said it was included, but when I asked, the owner acted as if he didn’t know what I meant and said they didn’t serve breakfast. I later saw Google reviews from people reporting breakfast scams for months, so he must have known. The hotel is called Bed & BREAKFAST. When I asked what we could do, he offered to bring coffee and tea later. That didn’t make up for the extra money I’d paid, and I wouldn’t have booked the room at that price if I’d known. He never brought either drink or contacted us. He also charged us 12,60 euro as tourist tax, though I understood the maximum for a 3-star hotel was 8 euro for two people. I was very disappointed. Don’t stay here; for that price, you can find much better without getting scammed.

The only drawback for us was breakfast. It was just cereal, cake, cookies, and toast with jam. I’d read that this is a traditional Italian breakfast, but I’m not convinced. The owner was friendly and really helpful, and our room was clean, roomy, and had air conditioning.

The owner was very kind, and although his English wasn’t very strong, we could communicate. Rooms were clean and spacious, with air conditioning, at a reasonable price. The location works well for travelers, though nearby trains are clearly audible and may bother some people. Sanitary conditions were okay. It’s a shame the kitchen can’t be used, and the included breakfasts are extremely basic with no variety.
