The setting is a plus: there are great views, downtown is within walking distance, and the hotel is right on the road to the Tonale ski area. You’ll need to drive to Tonale, or walk about 20 minutes in regular boots to the "Cabinovia" on the other side of town in Ponte di Legno for the gondolas. I visited in December 2017, and the hotel seemed quite old. The radiators, showers, pots and pans all looked worn and didn’t seem to be in the best working order. You have to bring your own sheets and towels, though you can rent them at reception for a fee. Rooms aren’t cleaned regularly unless you pay extra, and you have to take out your own trash. Wi-Fi is only in the lobby, where the connection was very poor. There’s a restaurant, but you need to book a day ahead. I didn’t try the spa, small bar or pool table. There’s also a kids’ room with ping-pong and a TV, where a staff member runs the kids club and looks after the children, which is handy for parents and should appeal to younger kids. It’s pet friendly, so keep allergies in mind. If you book early and can overlook the obvious shortcomings, or you’re on a budget, it can be a good option.

It was dirty and felt pretty cramped.

The staff are really nice, and it’s a nice hotel, though the apartments are very small. The ski room doesn’t have enough space for six pairs of boots and skis, and there are no boot dryers.

I paid 65 per night for two nights through the booking, then wanted to stay one extra night. When we left, the total they charged was higher than what we’d paid through booking. How does that make sense? The hotel grounds were frozen, with no salt or anything, so I couldn’t walk around.
