Hotel Ancora

Parking was easy, and the hotel's side entrance was really convenient. The price was hard to beat, too. What made the stay especially good was the friendly, helpful staff and the restaurant, which felt simple and genuine. Our room was lovely, with a great balcony and a wonderful sea view. The rooms were clean, and breakfast had a nice range of options. We especially enjoyed the balcony and the sunset view. The staff were so kind and helpful, and the beach is just across the street. Renovation work was still going on, though the road and bridge construction had already finished. I really enjoyed staying at Hotel Ancora. Thanks for the hospitality and great service.

The dinners were a real highlight: two courses and dessert each day, and everything was delicious. Breakfast was a different story. Food kept running out, and the servers didn't respond when there were no plates or the juice containers were empty. They also gave us coffee in paper or plastic cups, even though there was china by the machine. I visited Hotel Ancora in early September with an organized group of about 60 people and stayed for a week. Our first room smelled strongly of cigarettes, and its windows looked onto an enclosed corridor between two building sections, so we couldn't get fresh air. When we complained, the receptionist first said nothing could be done, then found us a better room. Other people in our group had nice rooms with balconies and sea views. The building is clearly not new, but our room was clean and serviced daily, and the cleaning staff were very nice. The hotel feels isolated. On weekdays, the nearby bars and restaurants were quiet, and the area seemed a bit sketchy in the evenings. The beach was shingle, dirty, and the water got deep close to shore, which didn't feel very safe for swimming. There's a small pool at the neighboring hotel, but you need a shower cap. I understand the hygiene reason, but a plastic cap in the heat was uncomfortable. We were first told the pool was free, then told it cost 3€. As part of a large group from Poland, I often felt we were treated as second-class guests compared with others, for example Italians. The hotel has good and bad sides, and a lot seems to depend on which room you get. I don't think it deserves four stars; three is the most I'd give it.

The room was genuinely spacious, and the view was great. Breakfast was good too, and the beach bar is really nice. I've added plenty of photos, so you can judge it for yourself. We stayed in room 215, which seemed only partly renovated. Paint was missing around the new balcony doors, and only the left door could be locked; the right one had no lock at all. Some electrical sockets hadn't been installed, and the air conditioning didn't work, even though it looked newly renovated. WiFi reached one end of the room poorly and didn't reach the other end at all. I could list more details, but you get the idea. If you don't look too closely, the room itself is big and has a great view.
