Il Caminetto

The pool and shaded private parking are handy, and the staff are friendly. The place is quiet, high up at the end of the valley, near the San Martino Villa of Napoleon. From my balcony I could see the ferries arriving in Portoferraio. There's little else around, though, so you'll need a car to get to the beach or go for lunch or dinner. There's a bus to Portoferrario, but the last one leaves around 8 in the evening. Rooms are very small, though the balcony size depends on the room: some are larger, and ground-floor rooms have a patio. I barely had space to step onto my tiny balcony. You can hear other guests clearly through the walls, and the small bathroom was no surprise. On the plus side, it was very clean and had huge towels. The price seemed high for the rooms and location, but then again, it's Elba.

Enjoyed our two-night stay. The center is a 10-minute drive away.

A nice hotel!

We liked it enough to extend our stay last week. The setting in the hills is charming, with a lovely view over the Portoferraio sea. The rooms aren't especially big, but they're clean and well kept, and the staff are incredibly friendly. A huge, carefully tended garden and pool surround the property, making it feel peaceful and quite special. Breakfast on the wooden patio overlooking the sea was excellent and plentiful, with both sweet and savory choices. The owner makes fresh homemade cakes every day. Mr. Gianfranco is kind and polite, knows the area well, and pointed us toward the best beaches each day. Highly recommended.
