The dining room and its balcony are the best part, with sublime views from the rooms too. We found this easily the best hotel deal of our trip through Europe. It feels like a pleasant step back in time: an understated, well-kept 1960s Roman style, with a lobby that has a mid-century Italian feel. The rooms are vintage but comfortable and have the basics, including a fridge and minibar. The beds are very soft, so ask for extra pillows. Service is relaxed, efficient, and friendly. With that view, it's a lovely place to cool off with a book, though the enormous gin and tonic costs €7.

Being able to walk to everything we came to see in Portovenere was a real plus, and the private parking out front, for a fee, was essential for me. We spent three nights in a sea-view room and enjoyed our time here day and night. The views are exceptional, and the service was excellent. Breakfast is a generous buffet in the dining room or on the terrace, a lovely start to the day. Everyone was helpful from arrival through departure, especially Leonardo.

Breakfast was really generous, and the lobby and breakfast room have a classic feel. We had a drink there before dinner. The beds were soft and comfortable, unusually nice for Italy, and the harbour view alone makes the stay worthwhile.

The town is easy to explore on foot, with lovely water views, and we took the shuttle to another island for a nice dinner. We had been told to expect a bed with a view, and that set expectations just right. My favorite photo from the whole trip was the sunrise we saw at breakfast.
