The people here made us feel like part of the family, and the service was so friendly. We stumbled on this place by chance, and it turned out to be a great find. There’s lots of space around the property, with sweet cats, lovely cows and dogs. Our room was really nice, and the bed was very comfortable. We had breakfast and dinner made with local products, both amazing. 🤩

The restaurant is small, bright and quiet, with a relaxed, distinctive feel. A rare cabinet by Kazuhide Takahama for Gavina, designed in 1975, sits comfortably among the rustic decor. The cooking is a delicious take on local food, using fresh, natural ingredients made locally. It was simply excellent. I’d let the staff guide you and just enjoy the meal. As a local, I’d call this the best place in town. It’s a real gem for a refined, homey experience with outstanding food and service.

Maria was especially lovely and made such an effort to speak English with us. I’d come back just for her food. The meal was simple local fare, made with care, and tasted amazing. The family who runs the farm clearly puts their heart into everything. There are about 30 cows, raised organically and fed only grass from the property. They’re well cared for, and we got to see them, gently touch them while they ate, and see their calves. They’re milked each morning, and the milk becomes wonderful cheese, yogurt and panna cotta. Our room was spacious and clean, though there wasn’t a fridge. Dogs are welcome but need to stay leashed because of the farm animals and cats. I’d give this place more stars if I could. They deserve all the good things people say about them.

Dinner became one of the highlights of our trip. Maria’s dishes were delicious, full of local flavors and traditions, and she had a story for each one. Her love for sharing her heritage made the meal even more special. The cheeses were outstanding, the meat had so much flavor, and the panna cotta alone is worth the trip. We only planned to stop for a night between the Amalfi Coast and Puglia, but Taverna Centomani turned out to be a peaceful place to slow down, with really good food. We enjoyed the farm visit too, especially as a family with a young child. Our daughter loved the milk so much she would have taken a whole truckload home. Breakfast the next morning had a generous selection of homemade cakes and was excellent. We’d have liked a few more savory choices, since we usually prefer a less sweet start. The hosts recommended visiting Castelmezzano and Pietra Pertosa on the way to Matera. The scenery was gorgeous, and the villages felt lovely and authentic. It’s a wonderful place to stay in Basilicata, especially with young children.

The breakfasts were delicious and homemade, and the rooms were spotless. Our hosts were so thoughtful and welcoming. We loved the whole stay and would gladly come back.
