La Maurella

The service was what really set this BnB apart for us, easily the best I had in Italy and better than anything I’ve experienced in the states. Michele, our host, was incredibly helpful. After my girlfriend and I arrived tired from a long day of travel, we asked where to eat. He quickly called a car, and we ended up at a local restaurant with a reserved table overlooking the water. When we said we wanted to rent mopeds, a car was waiting for us just 10 minutes later. Breakfast was spectacular, with fresh-baked goods, great cappuccinos, fruit, yogurt, eggs, and sliced meats. The town is perfect and quaint, and every part of our stay felt 10/10. I’m almost reluctant to write this because I’d selfishly like to keep this gem to myself. It was the best stay of my life, and I couldn’t recommend it more.

Michele was incredibly kind and helpful, with great ideas for things to do each day, including rainy-day options. The location is excellent, with gated parking right beside the main road. Our room was very clean and quiet, the shower was great, and the balcony had a lovely sea view. There are two restaurants about a minute away on foot, though you do have to walk alongside cars on the main road. The pool was heated, and although there’s no elevator, Michele kindly carried our luggage to the room. The mattress was the main downside. It was very firm and we could feel the springs. Staff quickly added two foam toppers and blankets, which helped, but it still wasn’t that comfortable.

The sea view was definitely the highlight, and the heated outdoor pool downstairs has four sun beds. We stayed two nights in a sea-view room. It was small but thoughtfully laid out, and the staff were welcoming and spoke good English. Our host, Michelle, was friendly and gave us great nearby restaurant recommendations. There were some disappointments. The room looked much larger in the photos. The shower barely flowed and stayed extremely hot no matter how we adjusted it. We mentioned this to the host, but it seemed to be a known problem. Breakfast was disappointing too. With all the fresh local produce around, I was surprised nothing local was served, even the bread was from frozen bakery goods. Soundproofing was poor, so we could hear almost everything from the next room. For the price, the service didn’t meet expectations. It’s marketed as a luxury relais, but feels more like a boutique hotel.

We booked through AirBnb and had a wonderful stay. The rooms were beautiful, the view from our bedroom balcony was amazing, and breakfast was the best. Michele and his staff were the kindest people we met on our Italy trip. We had lovely conversations with Michele before heading out and again when we came back, and especially appreciated his help figuring out how to get around the Amalfi coast. The location is perfect if you prefer somewhere peaceful over the busier coastal areas. We’d definitely recommend it and would stay again. Thank you for a wonderful visit.
