We had a delightful frittata and charcuterie platter during a tasting at this charming family winery in Prepotto, in Friuli near the Slovenian border. The tasting itself was FABULOUS. One of our fellow visitors, who knows quite a bit about wine, said he was astounded by the quality of their Fruliano. The Sauvignon and Schiopettino were excellent too. If you’re in the area, I’d really encourage spending a few hours here. This winery is worth seeking out.

The day before the season’s first harvest, we spent a golden afternoon at Grillo Iole tasting, touring, and talking. The vineyard was busy, yet everyone made time for a relaxed, friendly visit focused on their extraordinary wine. This whole area is wonderful, so take time to explore and enjoy it.

The wines were delicious, and the people were friendly and accommodating, dogs included. We got both a winery tour and a tasting, with the tour available in English and Italian. A nice, laid-back place to visit.

Mattia was an excellent host at a very relaxed tasting. He immediately offered suggestions for local spots and for places we’d be visiting next. We tried a mix of whites and reds, all excellent, especially the schiopettino, which is a signature of the Prepotto area. Touring the cellar was a plus, as were the very friendly doggos.

Breakfast was fantastic, with fresh food, delicious coffee, tea, and juices, plus a huge, varied spread overlooking the vineyards and winery. The hosts helped us make the most of our stay and the surrounding area. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, with an authentic feel, and met all our expectations. We also had a lot of fun at the winery tour and tasting, learning about how Grillo Lole makes high-quality wine. It’s a lovely family business, and we bought some of their delicious wine, carefully packaged. Paying by card or cash was easy. Arriving at this authentic winery in a wonderful vineyard region was amazing, and the hosts gave us the most hospitable, friendly welcome we’ve ever had. We recommend staying here. We had a really good time and would happily return.
