La Casa Del Mercante

We found the reception team very professional, and the property was clean and orderly. Our room and bathroom were both roomy and nicely furnished, with air conditioning, a TV, and a private bathroom. The elegant place is clearly well cared for. There’s a spacious shared lounge with a fridge, table, and sofa, plus an inner courtyard with a little pool and shower where you can unwind or have a snack. Clean towels and soap were supplied, though not a full set of bathroom products. Breakfast isn’t included, and I would have liked a kitchenette in the shared area. The one issue was a cluster of ants in a bathroom corner. They seemed to have been treated with insecticide. It didn’t shock me, but it would have been better to clear them away before guests arrived.

The hostess was kind and quick to help whenever we needed something, and the pool was lovely to use at any time. The room itself was clean and spacious. The location also worked well for getting around: about 15 minutes from the sea and Gallipoli, with Lecce and Santa Maria di Leuca reachable in under half an hour. A few practical things were missing, including an iron and a broom, and there wasn’t a proper coffee maker, just a 50-cent vending machine. Sheets and towels were supplied, but neither they nor the room were cleaned or changed during our stay, and there were no cleaning products. This was the case regardless of how long you stayed unless you paid extra. I came away with a very positive impression, especially for a short visit. I’d suggest reconsidering the room and linen cleaning, even once every 5-7 days, and making the services listed on Booking.com clearer.

We had a wonderful two-night stay in a double room. The garden was gorgeous, and the spacious, elegant living area was lovely too. The rooms have been beautifully renovated and furnished with new pieces. The town is well connected to Lecce, Gallipoli, and other places tourists visit. The owner was warm, friendly, and happy to accommodate us. Highly recommended!

Arturo, the owner, has a great eye for furnishing and renovating the rooms. The star-shaped vaulted ceilings are lovely, and each room has a theme based on the town it’s named after. We especially enjoyed cooling off in the hydromassage pool with a glass of prosecco nearby. My husband and I were there August 24th, 25th, and 26th with two other couples, traveling by motorcycle. It was a convenient base for seeing Salento. Everything was peaceful, spotlessly clean, and perfectly air-conditioned. The price was excellent for that time of year and what was offered.
