Campomaggio

The vineyard setting and the 18th-century villa are lovely, but this was the worst impression of any hotel on my trip through Tuscany, Liguria, and Piemonte. The property and location couldn’t make up for the attitude and the things that were missing. I wouldn’t stay again or recommend it to friends. At breakfast, which costs 23 euros per person, there was no fresh orange juice or omelette included. We weren’t told about extra charges when ordering, only given the bill afterward. The juice cost another 6 euros, tasted like it came from poor-quality oranges, and the glass was half full of ice. The breakfast itself was below average, with salad leaves that didn’t look fresh and no choice of local cheeses or other special touches. The toilet flush button was broken and fell off the wall one day. There were no bathrobes in the room. We asked for them, then had to go to reception the next day to collect them because our request had been forgotten. In the spa, half the things were broken or switched off, including the sauna. It’s a pity that the way the place is run makes such a nice property less appealing to guests.

The venue and restaurant were wonderful, but the room and staff let the stay down. We were there for two nights in June as part of our honeymoon, hoping for a relaxing break, and it turned out to be the opposite. I’d suggest staying somewhere else. Our room had no air conditioning in 30-degree weather. No one told us about the problem in advance, and at first we were told it would work. The following day, staff said they’d check and fix it, but it still didn’t work. They offered us a different room late at night on our second evening, which was pointless by then, and took only $100 off our food bill. The pool was also poorly cleaned, with bugs and leaves floating in it during the day. When we asked for it to be cleaned, the staff acted as if they didn’t understand what we meant.

Matildès was so thoughtful and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Her service was exceptional, and everyone else was welcoming too. The grounds are lovely, and this small, beautiful hotel made us wish we’d booked more than three nights. We can’t wait to return with family and let them experience Villa Campomaggio!

The staff spoiled the stay for us. One member in particular was so rude to a guest that I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. They also charged us for an extra breakfast and won’t refund it because we didn’t catch the charge at checkout. Disappointed, and I wouldn’t recommend the place. The views are amazing, and so is the pool. The rooms were fine, though the air conditioning and ventilation need improvement, and breakfast was good.
