The views and the feeling of being far away from everything are what make this place special. From Volpaia, reaching the Locanda means about 10 minutes on a very bumpy off-road track, so a low car wouldn’t be suitable. We had an SUV and managed fine. Once there, though, the scenery makes the rough drive worthwhile and you can unwind straight away. We stayed two nights in mid-July, in Room 2 on the ground floor. It has a private terrace with a lovely view. The décor is simple rather than luxurious, but the rustic feel fits the place. There’s also a pretty pool area with more great views. Breakfast was simple and good. I’m allergic to nuts, and when I spotted a chocolate cake on the first morning, Kaly kindly made it again without nuts for me the next day. That thoughtful gesture really stayed with me. Kaly welcomed us and showed us to the room. Lorenzo was also very kind and helpful with my mother, who stayed in one of the owners’ apartments in Volpaia. The apartment was charming and suited the village, though it could use some updating to feel fresher while keeping its rustic character. The same owners also run hotel rooms there, and from the care we received, I’d expect guests to be looked after whichever accommodation they choose. There’s no restaurant at the Locanda, so you need to drive back along that track to Volpaia, about 10 minutes away, where there are three restaurants, or head to another nearby town. Osteria Volpaia, which has the same owners, was a truly exceptional meal. The Volpaia staff made our stay special, and we’ll definitely be back. I’d recommend the place if you want to disconnect and travel on a reasonable budget, as long as your car can handle off-road conditions.

We spent three nights at La Locanda Volpia with a friend, and the quiet surroundings gave us a real break from everyday life. The views over the vineyards and cypress trees were beautiful, with the Tuscan light changing the scene through the day. It’s a lovely spot to slow down with a glass of local wine and watch the sunset in peace. The staff were warm and attentive, and seemed genuinely keen to make us comfortable. They helped with local recommendations and were kind throughout our stay. We left feeling refreshed and already thinking about coming back. I’d gladly recommend La Locanda Volpia to anyone after a peaceful, scenic and authentic stay in Tuscany.

Kali and her team made us feel so welcome, with helpful suggestions on just about everything and in many languages. The room was splendid, air-cooled and had its own terrace. There’s a classic infinity pool, a comfortable lounge, and a main terrace where you can sit in sun or shade with a softly lavender-scented breeze and that view. Locanda Volpaia was superb for our 3 night visit to Chianti. It’s 3km along an easy strada bianca from Volpaia Castelo, near the hilltop among mature gardens, looking over Radda and out to distant hills. Breakfast was full. Though it isn’t advertised, Kali can also arrange an evening meal, from an 'Antipasto salumi feast' to 'Tagliata manzo e porcini'. We hated leaving and will return. Kali and team, thank you so much. Really great experience. The two girls were incredibly friendly, and both breakfast and service were perfect. They also serve local lunch and dinner. Greetings from Austria!

The hotel sits in a lovely spot above the nearby village and Chianti valley, and the room, terrace and breakfast were all great. Kaly and the team were extraordinary, getting in touch proactively and helping us find a local restaurant. I’d definitely recommend it.
