Park Hotel Ravenna

The welcoming, professional staff were a real bright spot. Maria, the housekeeper, and Joey, the restaurant waiter, both spoke English, German, and Italian and were always willing to help. I also liked the rustic Italian feel of the decor, the accessible entrance and elevator, and the hotel's closeness to the beach, where comfortable sunbeds and facilities are provided. There were plenty of problems, though. The pool is free to enter, but using a sunbed costs 5 euro per person per day, and neither towels nor water are included. The beds were dirty, with bird droppings around the open pool. The internet was awful, despite the hotel's claim that it was exceptional in every room. Even chat messages were difficult, and audio or video calls were out of the question. The location also made it hard to sleep. Several nearby bars and restaurants kept going well past midnight, and the music came through the glass for hours. If you stay, you'd need a balcony room on the other side, or perhaps another place altogether. The restaurant was the biggest letdown. The food was unpredictable, and although they use good products, the kitchen seemed to struggle with cooking, seasoning, and presentation. Dishes were often bland, undercooked or overcooked, and badly plated. On August 15th, an evening advertised as unforgettable turned into a disaster. Around 200 people waited about 40 min for starters, and the main courses took about as long. We gave up before dessert. Our food was tasteless and looked like it had been dropped onto the plates, with splashes and fingerprints everywhere. I have no idea what happened after we left. This doesn't feel close to a 4 star hotel now, even if it may have been in the past. It fails to deliver even half of what its description promises. My 2 stars are for the decor and the staff. I definitely wouldn't return.
