Grand Hotel Excelsior

The staff were beyond wonderful, and the restaurant food was beautifully presented and incredibly well priced. The quality speaks for itself, as you’d expect in Italy, where the standard is the benchmark for good eating. I’ve travelled around a lot of Italy and seen some beautiful places, but I’d never been this far south before. This region is stunning. The hotel’s location is incredible, with a view of the volcano in Sicily while you eat breakfast. I loved staying here. It’s not Dubai luxurious, but it’s a very solid four-star level. I look forward to coming back whenever I can 🫶🏼

Breakfast was decent, though it was odd that scrambled eggs cost extra instead of being included. The hotel feels dated and really needs some renovation. My room’s air conditioning didn’t work, and the air felt so stagnant that sleeping was difficult. The key card system is old too, and I had to get the card reactivated several times.

The rooftop breakfast was incredible and a perfect way to start the day. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and our bright, spacious Jr suite worked well for us. The staff were very helpful, especially the hotel manager, and made our stay in Reggio perfect. The location is the best, within walking distance of all the restaurants and just steps from lungomare. I’d recommend it and stay again when we return!

The location is excellent, near the famous museum with the two exceptional bronze statues and many other cherished artefacts from Italy and Greece. The staff were really helpful, though some spoke only Italian, and the service was really good. Rooms came with lots of amenities, such as hair ties and soap, but had some dents and peeling spots that made them seem a bit dated. There’s no soundproofing, so you can hear everything. I could hear someone next door watching TikTok. I think it’s a good place for a short stay, like mine, especially because of the location.
