Hotel Borgo di Santa Barbara

The pool is a lovely place to unwind. Borgo di Santa Barbara is a wonderful family-run hotel with spacious, comfortable rooms that are well equipped and look out to sea. There’s a pool, restaurant, and bar, plus a great free breakfast each morning. A good base for relaxing or exploring this beautiful part of Calabria.

It was handy having parking right on the premises, close to our room. The restaurant is lovely and just steps away, and both breakfast and dinner were exceptional. Our room was spotless and comfortable, and management was friendly and attentive to what we needed.

The restaurant on site, La Locanda, is open to the public for lunch and dinner, and the food is phenomenal. The resort itself is small and charming, with very clean rooms, shared living rooms and a terrace, plus a pool. Tropea center is a short drive away, though it’s not a good walk.

We wish we could have stayed longer and used this as a base to explore Calabria. The owner and staff were welcoming and spoke several languages. The property is quiet, with a view of the ocean, gated parking, and the restaurant just steps away. We had a delicious dinner there. We asked for a ground-floor room in the two-story building. Ours had a big patio with a table and chairs, a very comfortable bed, and A/C that worked better than any we’d encountered. There’s Wi-Fi in the room and restaurant, screens on the windows so you can open them for a breeze, and plenty of outlets. Breakfast today included cereal, pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, meats and cheeses, plus a machine that makes fresh coffee.
