Villaggio Cala Di Volpe Hotel & Residence

Service was efficient, friendly, and excellent, and I was really impressed with my chalet. It had two bedrooms and a kitchen area, though I could have done with more seating in the kitchen-living space. It was a bit too isolated for me as a solo holidaymaker who couldn't drive, but that was made clear in the TUI brochure. I still had a lovely time.

We were charged around €120 for little extras, so we felt our tip was more than enough. The friendly receptionist tried hard, and unfortunately seemed to bear the brunt of it. The apartment snacks were presented like a little gift from the house, but the packets were only five to ten grams, no more than three by three centimeters, and each cost €3.50. A large bottle of water was €4 in the room but, oddly, only €2 in the restaurant. Beer was €6, the sort of price I've only seen in Switzerland. If you're thirsty, you get punished here. The tourist tax was about €80 on top of the €2,500 we'd already paid, which felt absolutely outrageous. The same tiny pastries kept being pushed on us. There were good parts: the staff were generally friendly, the loungers with sunshades were comfortable, and the pool was pleasant. The pizza was worth praising, but the seafood wasn't much good and seemed to come from frozen. Food overall gets a 3 from me. One roast beef dish, about 5mm thick, was completely raw and hard to chew, clearly prepared and served wrong. We stayed in an apartment for a week. The hotel is generally of a fairly good standard, but the bad points were serious. Insects in the apartment had to be dealt with chemically. There were loads of mosquitoes and no fly screens, something that could be remedied cheaply, but the suggestion was simply laughed at. Most dining room staff were friendly; one man had no manners and was constantly moody, ruining one meal. Tablecloths were greasy and dirty, rarely or never changed at dinner or breakfast, which shouldn't happen at a 4-star hotel. A decomposing animal must have died in the bushes in front of the terrace. The putrid stench was awful and wouldn't go away. So many things felt illogical and disorganized.

The restaurant's sea view is a real wow. We were welcomed at arrival by the reception team, who were friendly and very professional, and the Cala di Volpe staff were kind throughout. Service was very good. The view from Borgo le Rocce is priceless.

We had a lovely stay, with nice rooms and facilities. The service was great, and the food was good, especially the pizza.
