Hotel Memory

There’s a good choice of sweet and savoury food at breakfast, and it’s served until midday. The hotel is near the beach in a quiet residential neighbourhood, and MetroMare is not too far away for trips to Rimini station or further down the coast. The rooms, though, were dated and so small there was hardly space to move or put things away. The air conditioning was loud and too weak for the heat, which made sleeping difficult. Even with a quiet neighbourhood, you could hear doors, conversations, and even snoring because the building wasn’t purpose-built. It wasn’t very relaxing.

The staff were nice, and breakfast was okay, but the rooms didn’t feel private or safe with no sound isolation at all. Doors opening and closing echoed through the rooms. I was also shocked that nobody mentioned renovations were happening, or that several construction workers would be sharing my windows, including the bathroom window. A hotel needs to provide safe, private rooms, and this one failed at that.

The staff were polite and friendly, but the whole place badly needs renovating. The room felt like a storeroom, with a metal door, mismatched bedroom furniture, and a bunk bed shut away. A low shelf ran right above the double bed pillows, so we had to watch our heads getting up. When we first walked in, there was a strong damp, musty smell, as if the room hadn’t been used for ages. We stayed three nights and even thought about leaving a day early. The bed was uncomfortable and the linen was torn. They gave us tea towels for hand and face towels, no joke. We had a power cut, a bathroom door that jammed, a blocked toilet, and a bathroom window that wouldn’t shut. The shower cubicle was the smallest I’ve ever seen, and its cheap plastic bowed when you stepped in. The door either stayed stuck open or jammed closed. Breakfast was the exact same cakes all three mornings, and the food was poor quality. I also had to ask for more toilet paper twice, which has never happened to me at another hotel. One of my worst hotel stays. Surely anywhere else in town has to be better.

The rooms are a little small, but it’s a good place, about 7 minutes from the center. The service was friendly and good, and the Wi-Fi worked well.
