Hotel Leitner

It’s a really handy base for driving to sights and well-known hikes around the Dolomites, with reasonable journey times. The tradeoff is the setting: right beside the main road at the bottom of the valley, so we missed having a nice alpine view from the room. The rooms were modern, clean and pleasant, breakfast was outstanding, and the spa was clean and good. My husband also got to try a traditional alpine aufguss for the first time and enjoyed it. Staff were very friendly and clearly professional, but most spoke Italian and German rather than English, so communication was difficult. They were great at building relationships in those other two languages.

The rooms are spacious and clean, the staff are welcoming, and the typical Tyrolese food is good. It seems like a nice place for families, though the supper menu doesn’t always suit young children. If you ask for something simple, like pasta with tomato sauce or a roasted chicken breast, they charge for each variation from the main menu 😐

The hotel itself is very nice, with a good spa for unwinding after a day in the mountains, and chapeau bas to the restaurant’s chef. For skiing or snowboarding at Jochtal, the cabin lift is right by the hotel door; Plose is another good resort about half an hour away by car. The main drawback was the lady owner, who was very harsh with us. Be prepared for that, and for there to be no English-speaking staff. Apart from that, I’d more than recommend it.

The hotel is physically nice, but the human touch was awful. Our arrival was the worst greeting I’ve ever had, despite having stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world. The owners, especially the lady, came across as unfriendly and almost belligerent. Everything seemed to be too much trouble.
