Our Riomaggiore booking was cancelled because of flooding, just one day before we arrived. Luckily, we were connected with Maddy at Il BoMa and, after lots of helpful WhatsApp messages, arranged three nights in the Blue Room. Before we arrived, Maddy handled all our questions and sent clear directions and instructions promptly. That took a lot of stress away. Meeting her in person was even better: she gave us the most detailed, useful, and friendly briefing I’ve had in all my travels. She clearly loves the area and explained things like which passes to buy so we’d get the same rights as a local. Maddy was a gem of a host. Getting to Il BoMa was simple: a flat walk from the railway station through a pedestrian tunnel, then a short, manageable climb up the main street. The Blue Room is on the third level and has a small balcony with a table and two chairs. We spent a lot of time there, sipping wine and watching the street. There are restaurants, a couple of mini supermarkets, wine shops, and pretty much everything else you might need close by. We had to leave early because of a possible train strike and needed to make our connections. Maddy was very generous about it. Riomaggiore is a beautiful village with amazing views and walks, and it was the highlight of our European holiday. We’ll definitely return to Il BoMa. Thanks, Maddy, for your time and for sharing your lovely place with us. Dave and Tracy Geelong Australia

We used Riomaggiore as our base for the Cinque Terre hike to Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso in March 2023. After getting back very late by train from Monterosso, it was great to have lovely restaurants close by. It wasn’t peak season, though we’d heard things can get crowded and noisy then. The walk from the station was manageable even with our heavy 45L backpacks, and the owner’s detailed arrival instructions made the hotel easy to find without Google Maps. She also explained the room and the area around it. Our room was spacious and clean, with everything we needed: roomy closets, extra pillows and blankets, towels, bowls, utensils, a fridge, coffee maker, tea pot, and treats. The bathroom was roomy too. The owners were lovely. We’d happily suggest this hotel to family and friends, and hope to come back.

The yellow room was great, and we enjoyed the fresh pastries at breakfast. Check-in was easy and kind, too. Check-out, though, felt rude and unpleasant. Guests should get the exact instructions for their stay in writing, because even a small mistake or deviation may be met with anger and condescension in an impersonal email exchange. I hope this was just a one-off, but it means we won’t return or recommend Il Boma to anyone we meet.

Maddy was easy to reach by email and WhatsApp, and gave us very detailed information. The room was a good size and well kept, and its view was incredible. It’s also close to the train station and main street. We’ll definitely stay here again next time.

The room was very clean, and breakfast was provided each morning. Our host was excellent, thorough, and extremely helpful. The place is ideally located for visiting the Cinque Terre, and also sits in a great part of Riomaggiore. Highly recommend!
