The dinner at :a Cantinetta was arguably the best meal we had in Italy. We ate upstairs, looking out over the countryside to the horizon; at dusk, the view was almost magical. The homemade food and local wine made us feel connected to the land and its history. Our host was very friendly, and despite the slight language barrier, she enthusiastically explained each dish. Breakfast wasn’t included at first, but when we asked, they happily arranged a delicious, simple meal to start the day. We stayed at Torretta di Bassano - Affittacamere in the Italian countryside, and it felt like a homecoming. The area was perfect for exploring where my daughter’s great-great-grandfather lived before moving to England in the 1880s. We found the staff warm and kind throughout, making us feel welcome and valued. The room was basic but impeccably clean and had everything we needed. The shower pressure was surprisingly good, too. The restaurant is attached to the lodging. This visit left us with full hearts and beautiful memories, thanks to the generosity and warmth that made us feel part of a bigger family story.

The terrace was beautiful, and I liked the views and the building’s classic Italian suburb feel. But an older man came to check on us twice during the night and told us to go to sleep because we were talking. That felt like too much. There’s no kitchen here either.
