Breakfast was a letdown: low-quality sweets, a poor cappuccino that tasted like long-life milk, and really bad coffee. It was served in a small room below street level, with a damp smell. My partner and I had chosen this B&B after seeing the carefully arranged photos online, but the place felt very different in person. It’s hard to spot from the street, and the dark entrance leads to a small, mostly unlit corridor. Our room was small and uncomfortable, with glossy black decor that made it feel oppressive even though there was a window. There was dust on the furniture and cobwebs in the corners and by the bed. The bathroom was large and clean enough, though there was mould in the shower corners. In the evening, the outside keypad was poorly lit and its number symbols were hard to make out. A light on a cell phone was needed to see them.
