Camping Village Baia Azzurra

The kids loved the pool area, even though the water was already pretty cold. This campsite is great for families, and going in the off-season means it’s less crowded everywhere. We had a private bathroom, which was okay. The showers weren’t hot, and with some luck they were at least not completely cold. Mosquitos were the big downside. It was impossible to go anywhere without covering ourselves in insect repellent, which got very annoying.

The bungalow matched the photos and was in excellent condition. It had kitchen utensils, towels, sheets, blankets, and pillows, but no toiletries or kitchen cleaning supplies. The pool and beach were very good, and you could rent bikes or e-bikes from €10 a day. The on-site grocery was convenient and had almost everything we needed. The restaurants were good, though a bit pricey. Staff were friendly, cheerful, and courteous, but communication could be tricky since most didn’t speak much English and assumed I knew Italiano. At check-in, Massimo was helpful and explained the campsite map clearly. The process was to park the car or trailer at the desk, get a wristband, drive to the bungalow to unload, then leave again and park in the dedicated overnight lot a few seconds away. There was a €100 security deposit and city tax of €2 per night. A beautiful sandy beach is only a two-minute walk away. It’s private to the property and the gates only open with a wristband. Check the website for beach prices, or use the free section without umbrellas or chairs. Cold showers are free, hot ones cost money, and the beach bar was handy. The layout and amenities were great, and I’d highly recommend the property.

The toilets and showers were very clean and seemed to be cleaned often. We paid about €85 for one night in a tent for two, which felt very overpriced. The pool shuts early, at 7pm, and beach use costs extra. Some restaurant staff came across as arrogant, though a couple were lovely and friendly. Reception and some other staff seemed disinterested in foreign guests, even when we tried hard to communicate in Italian, so we didn’t have the best experience.

The beaches are beautiful and the campsite itself is nice, but the rules are so ridiculous that we wouldn’t choose it again. Check-in and check-out each meant waiting at least half an hour, and there were lots of unnecessary, strange rules. The staff were not polite at all. Don’t eat at the restaurant on site. It was the worst meal we had in all of Italy: nothing tasted good, the food was overpriced, the portions small, and it was incredibly awful.
