Villa dei Tigli is a beautiful, well-kept villa, and we enjoyed staying there for two nights while exploring Mantua and the surrounding area. The rooms are spacious and clean, with splendid mature trees across the grounds. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and helped us with our sightseeing needs. We only had breakfast at the restaurant, and it was very good. There’s plenty of free parking out front, and Rodigo village is just a few minutes’ walk away, with more places to eat.

The food was really good, but the kitchen unexpectedly closed for two days. By our standards, that’s unacceptable for a four-star hotel. Breakfast was okay, though items weren’t replenished quickly enough and we had to sit and wait. The pool was cleaned only by a robot in the early hours, and by day four algae had started turning it green, so it wasn’t suitable to use. We were visiting from Denmark and were surprised by how little English the staff spoke. Some couldn’t say a word, while a few others seemed to know just a handful of phrases. It left us feeling unwelcome, as if they were deliberately avoiding us. The countryside setting is very cosy, but there’s only one other pizzeria in town. Unfortunately, it went on vacation shortly after we arrived, so we had to drive to nearby towns for dinner. All in all, we would NOT recommend staying here unless you speak Italian.

A lovely hotel with air conditioning, a beautiful garden, and a nice pool. Dinner is great, and I’d recommend it to my friends.

A great hotel, though it could use some new furnishings.
