Il Veliero B&B Roma

We had a wonderful time and will definitely come back. The property and rooms were spotless, tidy, and furnished in a homely style that I loved, with colours and decor that felt domestic and welcoming. The hosts were professional, friendly, and helpful. We arrived late because of travel restrictions and had a check-in issue, but we’d sent our documents beforehand and the property had provided access codes, so it all worked out. The codes for the entrance and automatic gate let us come and go independently, which I liked most. We also paid a fair amount to stay a few hours past checkout because of our travel plans. There’s a lovely outdoor area with covered and uncovered parking inside the automatic gate, plus sofas, armchairs for smokers, and coffee tables. It connects to the host’s well equipped kitchen, where you can cook as long as you leave everything clean and tidy. The Metro C line is nearby, and the bus service at the stops is fairly comprehensive, with supermarkets, pizzerias, and restaurants around as well. The property is in a green suburb of Rome, Rocca Cencia.

We stayed a night in the annex, which had two bedrooms and a bathroom. It was lovely, simple, and clean, and the price was excellent. Checking in with codes was really convenient and meant there were no time restrictions. Buses and the metro connect the B&B to central Rome, though the trip takes about 45 minutes.

The metro into Rome is close, and Tivoli is easy to reach, but I wouldn’t stay here again. My wife and I noticed the area didn’t feel great when we arrived, though we tried to look past that. Inside, the owner asked for cash upfront and showed us what she called a suite. The double bed was two singles, the Jacuzzi tub didn’t work, and bathroom wires were exposed. There was a little room that looked like breakfast might be served, but it wasn’t included. The owner was intrusive at first, then disappeared and never came back. There were also several stray cats around, which may not suit everyone. If you’re comfortable with very basic conditions, it might work for you. Otherwise, I’d look elsewhere.

I’ve already emailed the people responsible for overseeing these places. From arrival through the final day, the owner treated us as if we were criminals, even though it’s a home. There was no respect or customer service, and I’m amazed people like this are licensed. The facility didn’t meet health and safety standards, especially regarding Covid. And this isn’t a B&B, it’s a guesthouse. The worst experience of my life.
