Il Castello di Venere

The listing for the Standard Double Room described a private bathroom with shower, bidet and hairdryer, plus a fully equipped kitchen with stovetop, refrigerator, kitchenware and microwave. It also promised a barbecue, private entrance, flat screen TV with streaming, garden views and fruit. It said the unit had one bed. On arrival, we were told we'd booked a room with a toilet outside, but they moved us to a quadruple room with a toilet inside. There was no bidet, barbecue or private entrance, and the supposed garden view made me laugh. Our room had two beds for four people, so I wouldn't call it romantic. There were some positives: a large shared terrace on the first floor, a decent simple breakfast, paid parking beside the building, and the price was cheap, €405 for 17.4-1.5. The mountain location was quiet and remote, with no barking dogs, other animal noise or endless bell ringing. Tap water was drinkable. The paid parking was too narrow, so later we left the car in another free lot 700 m from the hotel. There's no do not disturb sign, and room service knocked three times, making me get up and answer in my underwear. The building was noisy around the clock, especially the neighbour's toilet at night, and the shower and toilet room was narrow. The host family lives in the same building, and we heard a serious family argument with doors banging and loud voices. We spent half our trip in other accommodations around Italy because we didn't want to return here, even though we'd paid for the stay. I'd recommend it for a budget stay in the mountains if you want to explore the gorgeous surroundings or hike, but you'll need a car to get there.
