Hotel Le Dune

I almost never leave reviews. Usually something has to be exceptionally good or bad for me to bother, and I’m sorry to say this place was exceptionally bad. I’ve had a home about 90 minutes from this resort for nearly 40 years and know the Mediterranean coast well. This was our first stay at Le Dune, and from the moment we came in, it felt like the hotel and we weren’t on the same page. At check-in, the front desk seemed either uninterested or incompetent. We asked them to reserve dinner at the hotel restaurant and were told they couldn’t do it, and to call extension 207 at 6:30. We called and got a table. Two people also told me long pants were required in the restaurant. I’d never encountered a beach restaurant with that rule, but went back to the car, bought pants, and wore them to dinner. I was the only man in pants; everyone else had shorts on. There was plenty of food and it was okay, but we were told the four-course menu was the only choice, with no à la carte ordering. Then the bill charged each course as though we had ordered à la carte. I raised it with the manager, who fixed it. The room rate includes two beach chairs and an umbrella. The beach has three rows, starting closest to the water and going back from the ocean. We checked in with the attendant at 7:30 AM, before anyone else was there, and were told only the back row, farther from the hotel, was available. I wouldn’t mind the back if that was what I’d signed up for, but nobody explained how to get a front-row spot. There was no communication, just the back row, period. On the second day we called at exactly 6:30 PM as instructed to book dinner, and were told the only opening was 9:30 PM. We’d called right on time and still got nothing better. The resort must have been beautiful once, but now it’s very run down. We paid to leave a day early and go home. There were some good parts: despite the front desk, everyone else was kind and hospitable, our room was a good size, and the beach is nice and well located. A few minutes down the road we found a magnificent restaurant, La Spiaggia Di Sabaudia, where our waiter Adriano gave us exceptional dinner and service.

Being right by the beach is incredibly convenient, and the location is wonderful. The rooms and service were just okay for me, especially given the price and the four-star rating. I’d choose the least expensive room and make the most of being by the sea, only two minutes away.

Beautiful spot right by the beach, and most rooms have balcony views. It’s a bit dated, but good value for the money. The staff were really friendly.
