Agriturismo Tenuta Merlano

We couldn't sleep properly because so many things were broken, and we felt we'd overpaid. We asked the owner for a partial refund, but I'm still waiting for it. The rooms weren't properly equipped, were dirty, and had bugs everywhere. There were wild boars around us while we had small children with us. The woman who owns the place was horrible. A horrible stay. DO NOT GO THERE.

We celebrated my 50th birthday with family and friends at Merlano, out in the Roman countryside about 20 minutes from the city center. The apartments were clean and well looked after, and the big dining room was lovely. We started with a plentiful, high-quality aperitif under the portico, then sat down to dinner. The burrata and zucchini flowers were exceptional, and the fettuccine with wild boar ragù was great too. We also had pork fillet with green peppercorns, baked potatoes, garden salad, and an excellent local wine. The staff were extremely kind and helpful, as was our hostess, Katia. The one letdown was the rather meager breakfast.

The staff were great, but the management was poor and the owner was rude. Dinner was inedible, breakfast was bad, and we were expected to clear the table after dinner. Both meals and rooms cost too much. The rooms and dining areas were freezing, the outside was dark, and check-in and check-out took far too long. Our documents were returned late, even though some people needed to leave early in the morning. It was a bad experience and I honestly can't recommend it. Also, it's completely unsuitable for wheelchair users.

The room was spacious, warm, welcoming, spotless, and had a really comfortable bed. The rustic wooden reception looked beautiful too. We arrived late in the afternoon, almost in the dark, but could still make out a breathtaking view that looked just as lovely in the morning. In the morning, the kind owner prepared breakfast, gave us delicious tozzetti (typical pastries), and suggested a great local restaurant for dinner. A weekend beyond what I expected. I'd love to come back in summer and try the pool. Highly recommended!
