Agriturismo Macchiapiede

Coming back after a long absence due to COVID, Monkeypox, and everything in between, I found the property a little run down and decided to spend time helping restore it. I have a residence in Teggiano, Italy, and had chosen this family-run place for its affordable price, cleanliness, and convenient location. The care they give their guests and the attention to detail stand out. After a day of cleaning, I needed somewhere temporary to stay late that night, and the owners kindly gave me a room right away. There was a sense of connection among like-minded people during our stay. Every vehicle gets a parking spot under the shelter of an olive tree. Persimmon, pomegranate, and citrus trees around the entrance make it welcoming, especially for people who love plants and nature. You can also buy the farm’s handmade goods: Zafferano, assorted flavored liquors, seasoned caccio cavalo including one with Zafferano, several kinds of seasoned Ricotta, honey from their apiary, and more. There’s a private entrance to the bed and breakfast, where they offer their traditional products as well as cakes and jams they make themselves. The agriturismo has free Wifi, free private parking, and facilities for disabled guests. Each unit comes with a desk, flat-screen TV, private bathroom, bed linens, and towels. It’s a convenient base for places like Certosa di S. Lorenzo in Padula (UNESCO heritage), the Paleochristian Baptistery of S. Giovanni in Fonte in Sala Consilina, and the medieval village of Teggiano, known as the city of Princess Costanza and the Conspiracy of the Barons. The nearby villages and towns are worth a visit too, even if they’re less known. Polla has the convent of S. Antonio, and there are natural sites such as the Cilento and Vallo di Diano Park and the Grotte dell’Angelo in Pertosa. Along with the scenery, you get the flavors of traditional southern cooking and the warm hospitality of the Agriturismo Macchiapiede. The family farm sits at 500 meters above sea level, near the centre of Sala Consilina, within the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. It covers about 7.5 hectares, growing olives, grapes, cereals, fruit, and vegetables with conventional methods. There’s also a small dairy farm with cows, pigs, chickens, and goats. To get there on the A3 Naples - Salerno - Reggio Calabria motorway, take the Sala Consilina exit and follow Strada Statale 19 toward Padula. Things to explore include the farm and dairy, animal village, cooking laboratory, old farming tools, wheat flea market, cheese flea market, grape growing, and orchard. Pertosa Caves is 15 miles away, and the National Archaeological Museum is 31 miles away. Salerno - Costa d'Amalfi Airport is the closest, at 48 miles.
