Albergo del Centro Storico

The location was great, but the rest of the stay was very disappointing. The room barely blocked any sound, and neither guests nor staff respected quiet hours. The doors meant to keep things secure were left open all the time, removing a layer of personal security. The bathroom was poor: hot water took minutes to come through, the shower was tiny, and washing at the sink wasn't possible because its stopper was missing. There was also mold and paint in bad condition. Breakfast was passable, though Easalunga in Lainate is better.

The beach and nearby restaurants were the only real upsides. Street parking cost €2 an hour, and there was no parking on site. Check-in was awkward too, since it was handled at a restaurant 100m away. The room didn't resemble the photos at all: the floors, walls, and bathroom were dirty, towels were stained, surfaces were dusty, and there were insects inside even with the windows shut. It had no toilet seat, broken furniture, messy sheets, and a fridge that didn't work. I honestly thought about sleeping in the car. At least it was only one night.

We stayed two nights and told reception about the hot water, but nothing was done. The shower water stayed hot for only a few minutes, and there was no hot water at the sink. The room smelled stale and smoky, the air conditioning and room phone didn't work, and it wasn't very clean. It was also dark, with a window that couldn't be opened for light. The only little table had one cracked leg held together with a cable tie. The mattress was misshapen and overused, so the bed was uncomfortable. At night, the pub downstairs, which belongs to the hotel, was very loud. Breakfast was mediocre, and the floor staff seemed grumpy, never answering “you're welcome” or “prego” when I said “thank you” or “grazie.” Avoid it.

The staff were incredibly friendly and kept checking that we were having a good stay. Everything was clean, and the restaurant served really authentic food. The hotel is beautiful and well located for buses, the train station, the centre, the old town, and the beach. I know the city pretty well, and this is the best place I've stayed in. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
