Astoria Suite

The area felt far from tourist friendly. On our first night, after what felt like being chased by some thugs, we had to call the police, who thankfully came right away. The next night was not much better. We don't recommend this place. The lady was unkind and unhelpful. She charged us €20 for checking out before 8:00 AM, though the booking email only said €10 for calling before 8:00 AM. When we asked about recycling, she laughed in our faces and told us to take the garbage to the street bins. A hot shower was practically impossible because the boiler didn't work properly, and she was very resistant to contact. We also had no toilet paper, shampoo, shower gel, or hand soap.

The apartment is in the historic center and well located, if you can overlook the run-down neighborhood. Inside, it wasn't very nice and smelled damp and musty. We were charged an extra 25 euros for late check-in without having been told in advance. A neighbor helped us and was very kind, sharing tips for restaurants, supermarkets, and excursions. She suggested we skip Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, which were why we'd come to Salerno. We understood that was only her personal opinion, and both places are well worth visiting despite the crowds. The washing machine didn't work, but the neighbor kindly let us use hers and did our laundry.

We had no spare toilet paper for five people over three days. The washing machine was out of order, and there was no electric kettle or toaster. The lady wasn't very friendly, either. They charged us 25 euros for arriving after 10 p.m., even though she lived right next to the apartment. I don't recommend it at all.

I don't get how this place got five stars, or whose friendliness people are talking about. At checkout, the same person told us to take out the garbage. There was no heating. The two air conditioners couldn't be used because the electricity meter only supplies 1.5 kW, half the power of a normal home. That's all I'll say. It was a real inconvenience, especially with children.
