Grand Hotel Salerno

The room had plenty of space and all the amenities I needed while staying here as part of my contiki trip. The hotel hallways were long and a little eerie. Still, I enjoyed the stay, and it was one of the best hotels we stayed at in Italy.

The free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out was a real help. It let us enjoy our last day in Salerno without worrying about our bags. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and the housekeeping team stood out for being especially polite and attentive. Breakfast was enjoyable and good, but I expected more variety and a bit more refinement from a hotel presenting itself as four-star. A few better-quality options would improve it. I had a very pleasant stay at Grand Hotel Salerno and am happy with four stars. With a wider breakfast selection, it could easily be five.

We could walk to the marina to catch the ferry to Amalfi, which made this a really convenient place to stay for a visit there. The room was spacious and clean, and the ocean view from its terrace was beautiful. Falling asleep to the waves was relaxing.

Although it faces the sea, our room looked out toward a dark parking lot at the back of the hotel. The hallways felt humid and dingy, with strong smells. The room was always hot and humid because the air conditioning is centrally controlled. We could sort of lower the setting, but it didn’t cool down; asking the front desk each day to lower it didn’t help either. Basic things were missing, including an iron, which had to be requested from room service after they started work at 8 am each day. The phone in the room wasn’t labelled, so we had to call reception from our personal phone to find out how to reach them with it. This hotel is advertised as four-star, but that definitely wasn’t my experience. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
