Smeraldo Suites & Spa

We only stayed two nights, and the first impression wasn't good. In the end, the hotel helped us on day two, so the stay felt 50/50. We lowered our rating from 5 to 4 because of the communication and because we put the facilities at 3+. It seems like a large hotel run more like a small one. There is a lot there, including a spa. The standard room was clean but old and small, and some rooms were ona. On the first floor behind reception. There's a small pool and gym too, though it's a shame the gym's roof terrace isn't fully used. The molo is just across the street, as are the beach and beach bars. A big plus for parking, being dog-friendly, and having a bar and restaurant on site. The breakfast staff were super kind and work really hard. The standard room was another matter. We were surprised to learn that air conditioning is switched off in low season. Our first room heated up to 27 degrees, and it was very hard to sleep with the windows open and no nets, especially for someone recovering from a small surgery. We understand the wish to save energy and be environmentally friendly, but guests should be told in advance, perhaps in a booking.com message, so they can decide whether to stay or look for somewhere more suitable. Reception also needs clear guidance about what to tell guests. We spoke with three or four different people and got a different answer from each one, including the claim that the room was heated because the previous night had been very cold, which obviously wasn't true. If someone had treated us fairly when we first raised this after checking in, it would have saved frustration on both sides. The hotel moved us to a studio for the second day. It was better quality, comfortable, spacious, and, most importantly, cooler. We may just have been unlucky with the first room, since many guests were already there and seemed to be enjoying their stay.

Emiliano at the concierge made everything feel easy, thanks to how capable, polite, and proactive he was. The hotel is only a few steps from the beach, with generous rooms and service that goes beyond what I’d expect from a four-star place. A real gem all around.

The reception team is always happy to handle requests and suggest lovely places to eat and visit. Emiliano has welcomed us every time we’ve come, and this was our sixth stay. We’ve returned to Smeraldo before and have always been pleased with the rooms, beach, food, and service. This visit also brought some nice changes, especially breakfast. Eva was gentle, caring, and very responsible, while Barbara was warm and attentive.

The pool was a highlight, though I wish it stayed open a bit later. Near the end of our stay, I was nearly charged the property tax twice. I’d paid at check-in, but was later asked to pay again; luckily we sorted out the mix-up. Apart from that, we had the best time. The hotel and our spacious room were spotless, and the view was stunning. After I went swimming, I came back to find my skincare and makeup arranged more neatly than I ever manage myself.
