La Giara B&B

The scenery around San Demetrio Corone was such an unexpected treat on our drive down to Sicily, with mountains, olive groves, and grape plantations all around. Rosalia’s family grows olives and makes their own olive oil, and she also owns an agriturismo. She was a wonderful host, even though we booked less than two hours before arriving at 9pm after a long drive from Rome. The room was spotless and recently renovated, with basic toiletries and a hair dryer. We thought a small town surrounded by farms would have nowhere to eat that late, but Rosalia pointed us to two pizza places open until midnight. Breakfast was simple but made with lovely ingredients: fresh bread with delicious prosciutto and cheese, creamy cappuccino, a very sweet peach, and a great mix of local juices. We were amazed by how tasty and satisfying it all was. Stopping in San Demetrio Corone was a wonderful surprise.

The owners were wonderful, and breakfast was generous. We visited in February and had a lovely time; I can only imagine how it must be in spring or summer. The glamping spot feels like a peaceful oasis once you get there, tucked away in the middle of nowhere but still only a short distance from everything. A real surprise.

The breakfast was excellent, and everything was clean. We stayed at the B&B for two days and really enjoyed it.

I could have spent whole days taking in the views from the patio, hammock, or pool. The glamping site is also a handy base for the nearby Greek Sila, the Arbëresh villages, Pollino National Park, and the Ionian Sea, while village amenities are within walking distance. I came back to San Demetrio Corone in August, just two months after a lovely stay at owner Rosalia Sposato’s La Giara farmhouse. This time I wanted a short glamping break. The small, authentic place had what I needed to relax and recharge: a lovely, comfortable tent that’s simple but cozy, a delightful outdoor tub, and a beautiful natural setting with breathtaking views. It’s peaceful and away from distractions and pollution. Rosalia’s kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity made our stay rejuvenating again, and I’m very grateful. The natural surroundings and her personal touch make the site feel unique. I’m sure I’ll return.
