The pool and jacuzzi were a welcome reset after days spent sightseeing and sampling gelato, and the grounds gave everyone room to find their own spot. We ate outside, watched sunsets from the terraces, read quietly, or worked on a laptop. The older kids loved the ping pong table, while the little ones had sidewalk chalk on the kitchen terrace. There are fruit trees, flowers, herbs, lawns, and wide views over vineyards and olive groves. We also had a group dinner using the sturdy outdoor wood grill. Inside, the villa was spotless and comfortably laid out for both time together and privacy. The large kitchen had a long table, plenty of dishes, a six-burner gas stove, dishwasher, two full-size fridges, and three kinds of coffee maker. We stocked up at the Coop in Certaldo, which has a deli, bakery, butcher, fish counter, and more. Giulia had left a generous welcome basket, and the nearby Cesani winery she recommended supplied most of our house Vernaccia and Sangiovese. She also pointed us toward several good places to eat close by. There were four bedrooms, with the main bedroom and modern en suite just off the living room, plus two more bathrooms toward the back. Heating and cooling units and extra blankets were in each room; shutters, wooden doors, and dark curtains helped keep out noise and light. We used the rollaway bed for a child, and the Wi-Fi was good enough for Zoom calls. The washer, dryer, and outdoor racks kept us in clean clothes during the whole month. We spent an idyllic October at Villa La Francigena (fran-CHEE-gin-uh), from grape harvest through olive harvest. As we came through the gated driveway, property manager Giulia welcomed us and made us feel we were in good hands. She showed us the villa and its lovely grounds, which are edged by tall privacy hedges along a winding country road on the Via Francigena. Pilgrims and day hikers pass by on their way toward San Gimignano. Giulia explained everything clearly in fluent English and then left us to settle in after sharing useful local suggestions. The driveway fitted three cars easily, with room for more if maneuvered. We couldn't have asked for a better place for a Tuscan stay with family and friends. Thanks to Giulia and her crew for making everything feel effortless.

Right away, the villa felt like home. We especially loved the spacious kitchen, comfortable rooms, outdoor seating spots, and beautiful pool. Giulia explained everything clearly, shared helpful local tips, and checked on us during the stay. She also had a lovely welcome package waiting with wine, fruit, chocolates, pasta, and sauce. We hope we get the chance to come back. Highly recommend!

The garden was such a lovely place to relax, with plenty of spots to sit and take in the quiet scenery. The pool was huge and a real family highlight, with room to play games together. Inside, the villa was spacious, the rooms were a good size, and we all slept well. It was easy to find a little privacy when we wanted it. The kitchen layout worked well for several people preparing food at once, and the barbecue was great for a big family meal. Our hosts were so kind and responsive whenever we needed advice or help. They treated us almost like friends, and brought us a delicious cake and pork ribs made from an Italian recipe that we all enjoyed. The villa had everything we needed. We had no complaints and felt completely comfortable. It was a wonderful week, and we'd happily come back to make more family memories. We're grateful to our hosts for such a lovely holiday.

Gila and her family make you feel like part of their family, and their local chefs are among the best around. They often serve delicious food made with fruit they've grown themselves, and mommas cakes are especially good. The new table tennis setup is fun, too. The villa is a beautiful, comfortable home in the Tuscan countryside. Having the pool to ourselves on a hot day was pure bliss. We can't wait to travel from England again, hopefully next year.

Our week at the villa in July 2023 was going wonderfully for my family and another family until the second-last night. At about 2 AM, I woke thinking my young child in the next bedroom was up. Instead, I saw an intruder dressed in black running out of the house. I woke my wife and the other adults, and we called the police. They came to the villa and filed a report. In the morning, we saw marks where someone had pried open a pair of kitchen doors. The owner said those marks hadn't been there before. We also learned from the owner that the house had been broken into in the previous off-season while it was empty. I imagine the chance of this happening is low, but since the villa has been targeted more than once, I wanted to share what happened and suggest taking care. Before booking, I hadn't known that Tuscan villas can be targets for burglaries. Afterward, I searched online and found that it had happened to others. Apart from that frightening incident, the villa really was great for us: lots of space, a sparkling pool, pizza oven, grill, and easy access to many wonderful places. Giulia was very responsive throughout our stay. I would have given it 5/5 otherwise.
